Audiobook Review: American Housewife by Anita Abriel

American HousewifeAmerican Housewife by Anita Abriel
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Maggie has it all now. Everything she could ever wish for. She has a career as the host of the beloved TV show The Maggie Lane show, a cooking show that proves to be everything the American woman wants and needs in their lives. She teaches cooking along with being the friend that every woman wishes she has. But to have that show, she had to marry her boyfriend (though he has tried to get her to agree to marry him several times) and provide the persona of the all-American happy housewife. What the world (and her husband Teddy) cannot know is that she holds a secret, one that could ruin her name and her marriage.

This book is told in spurts of the current time of the book to the past before she met and fell in love with her husband, Teddy. Her backstory is riveting and full of twists and turns you aren't really expecting.

I found the book to be well worth the read. The characters all had such wonderful backstories and played such a great part in the FMC's life.

The narrator Jennifer Jill Araya was outstanding in this book, and I would love to listen to more of what she reads. She brought the characters to life... magic.

I'd like to thank the publisher, NetGalley, and the author for the opportunity to review this book.

Review: Sky Dreams by Keta Diablo

Sky Dreams, Book 3 (Sweet Historical Romance) (Sky Series)Sky Dreams, Book 3 (Sweet Historical Romance) by Keta Diablo
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Ms. Diablo is able to make the heroine of this story relatable to me in such a deep and soulful way. I've found throughout this series that her characters are filled with such depth that you can't help but feel sorry when you have to leave them behind at the end of the book.

Having lost a husband myself I know what scars that can leave on a soul. So when Haven runs from her pain I see myself in her. But, as with me, running was not the answer.

Could Haven and Cade have known what lies ahead when he saved her on the train? Who's heart was going to get broken? Who could be turning the town against one another? Who would help turn Haven's heart back on the right path? Would it be too late?

There are so many answers and so many things to unfurl that you'll not want to put this down. Take the time to sit down with this read today.

I did have one little issue with the book. There was a gift given in the book that should have had meaning toward the end but didn't show up. It was just built up to but kinda dropped out of sight.

Publisher's Insight:

Clean historical romance

Family bonds, malevolent schemes and passion collide in this sweet historical novel. Set in Minnesota during the Civil War and the Sioux uprising, this is the story of Rory Hudson, the exquisite Irish lass with an unbreakable spirit and the enigmatic Dawson Finch, a man bound by honor, duty and loyalty.

When Dawson enlists in the army to bring peace to nation divided, Rory’s world plummets into a tailspin. War, distance and time separate them, but nothing can dispel the haunting memories of their love. Not even death can destroy their fierce passion or a love so strong it beats the odds of the impossible.

Minnesota, civil war, Dakota uprising, romance, mystery, suspense

Sky Tinted Water (Sky Tinted Water, #1)Sky Tinted Water by Keta Diablo
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I am not fond of historical romance or historical books in general but this book changed my mind completely.

Moving with her sister to a new town is what Isabelle needed so Rory made sure that she accommodated her. Isabelle was the only mother she had ever known since her mother and father died coming across the boat on the way over to the United States.

After the move, Rory explores the woods outside her home and comes upon a half-naked man bathing in a creek. She's mesmerized by the site. When she's caught both literally and figuratively she runs and doesn't seem to give him a second thought until she sees him again until the barn raising for her brother-in-law's barn.

Circumstances bring them together and they live happily ever after until the war, and until the "creep" takes her. The foreshadowing is quite obvious although you think that more is going on than there really is until the end when you finally up 2+2 together.

A definite must read if you are looking for a must read for a sweet read that will give you romance without "all that jazz". I'm totally looking forward to book two so I can make sure that my hunch for the gifts is true. Though I wish that it would have been covered in book one.
